Bestow Productions has entered their first ever Pixie Award competition.
The Pixie awards are sponsored by the American Pixel Academy, a coalition of professionals and educators in the pixel media. The Pixie emphasizes the creative use of Motion Graphics, Effect and Animation from film, video television and internet media.
“92% of all video productions now use Motion Graphics, Effects or Animation. The Pixie Awards honors outstanding work in these areas.”
Bestow Productions entered two videos that make use of animation to get the message out to the viewers. Most of the animations at our disposal are pre-made and bought in stock, however every so often there is a project that comes across my desk that works outside of the box and challenges After Effect and editing skills.
Riding high from the gold win at the EMPixx, is our self-promotional piece called kinetic typography. It features ballistic text set to animate with the voice over to emphasize key selling points at Bestow Productions.

The second spot comes from a local automotive dealership, Zimmerman’s. The spot features a play on the words “Falling prices”, to have double meaning. The price of used vehicles have come down and the event happens during the fall when the leafs begin to fall. Every leaf in the backdrop was animated individually as well as text appearing on moving leafs. Logos are attached to spinning leafs so the logo is on one side but not the other.

About the Empixx:
Entries are judged on a standard of excellence, not against each other. Entries scoring 9.0 or higher on a 10-point scale qualify for the Platinum Empixx award. Those scoring 7.0 to 8.9 qualify for the Gold Empixx Award. Judging results are sent by email, and each entry’s score is included, along with brief judge’s comments about each of your entries. In addition, results are sent by US Postal Service, along with one free certificate for each winning entry.
The Empixx Award statuette is unique to our industry. Whereas most awards in the creative world are “stylized people,” The Empixx Award represents the transition from film to pixels. It is an award that stands out from all the others in our industry - one that symbolizes Moving Pixels. The Empixx award is 9.5 inches tall, and weighs 4.4 pounds. It is manufactured by Bruce Fox, inc. whose other work includes The World Series Championship Trophy, The NBA Championship Trophy, The Cable Ace Awards, The Motor Trend Car of the Year Award, and many other high-profile awards.
I would like to thank everyone who participated in the projects. Without your help the projects wouldn’t have made it off the ground. I would also like to thank Janell Green for the opportunity to associate produce for her project and so much more (director of photography, assistant director, casting, general pain in the butt). Janell would like to thank Vincent Jackson for the use of Action Rods of South Jersey.

This is Bestow Productions second year entering. Last year I entered two projects winning the gold award for one and the other just shy of gold. I also had the honor of judging last year's competition. I will be submitting two new works for 2011 competition.
The first is a self-promotion piece that shows off the use of moving text (known as kinetic typography) set to voice and spins in the third dimension. Feel free and take a peek:

The second is the jewel. It is produced through Arch Nemesis Entertainment and my friend Janell Green. It is a teaser trailer for the short film called "Touch". I had the honor by being director of photography and a helping hand on this shoot. You can also "spot the spot" here:
